Your Allocation
How to use this tool
What it answers: Which mix of stocks, bonds and cash fits me?
- Values start from your plan (Build my plan on the MyPlanner page).
- Change anything to try a what-if, then press the blue button to calculate.
- Like the result? Click Save to my plan and your timeline uses it too.
How MyPlanner works
- Build my plan — you enter your profile once (age, income, savings, Social Security). It is saved in this browser.
- Your answer — the Life Event Timeline on the MyPlanner page checks every year of your plan and tells you if your money lasts.
- Improve it — up to 3 suggestions you can apply or undo with one click.
The tools (like this one) are optional deep dives on one question. They start from the same profile. If you change a value here, it is only a what-if until you click Save to my plan.
All tools are free for registered users. The full Life Event Timeline, one-click suggestions and saving your plan to your account are part of a paid subscription.
Methodology and assumptions
This tool
- A short risk questionnaire gives a profile from Conservative to Aggressive. Example fund mixes are illustrations, not recommendations.
Used everywhere in MyPlanner
- Taxes follow 2026 federal tax law (brackets, standard deduction, extra deduction at 65+), raised with inflation in later years. State tax is the flat rate you enter; Social Security is not taxed by your state unless you choose so.
- Money is shown in today’s dollars unless a result says “nominal”. Default inflation is 2.5% a year.
- Default returns: stocks 6.5%, bonds 3.5%, cash 2% a year (about 5.3% for a 60/40 mix), or your own portfolio return. Returns are steady except in the Monte Carlo test.
- Social Security: your benefit at full retirement age (from your SSA statement, or estimated from your pay with the 2026 formula). Claiming early lowers it; waiting raises it 8% a year until 70. You choose whether to count 100%, about 80% from 2034 (if Congress does not act), or none.
- Required minimum distributions start at 73 (born 1951–1959) or 75 (born 1960 or later), using the IRS Uniform Lifetime Table.
- Limits: these are educational estimates, not financial, tax or legal advice. Health-care and long-term-care costs are national averages. Your data stays in this browser.
