IBM 401 (K) PLUS PLAN Contribution & Match Policy
Employee Contributions:
- Newly hired employees are automatically enrolled to contribute 5% of eligible salary and performance pay after approximately 30 days, unless they opt out.
- For new hires as of January 1, 2023, eligibility for automatic and matching contributions requires completing one year of service.
Employer Matching Contributions:
- Employees eligible under the Pension Credit Formula (as of December 31, 2007) receive:
- 6% matching contribution
- 4% automatic contribution
- Employees eligible under the Personal Pension Account receive:
- 6% matching contribution
- 2% automatic contribution (Note: the 2% automatic contribution was eliminated effective January 1, 2023; these employees now receive a 5% match and a 1% automatic contribution.)
- Employees hired or rehired on or after January 1, 2005, receive:
- 5% employer matching contribution
- 1% automatic contribution.
- A "Special Savings Award" of 5% of eligible compensation is added at year-end for non-exempt employees continuously employed since December 31, 2007.
- Employees eligible under the Pension Credit Formula (as of December 31, 2007) receive:
Roth 401(k) and After-Tax 401(k) Contributions:
- Roth 401(k) and after-tax 401(k) contributions are allowed
Contribution Timing:
- Effective January 1, 2023, matching and automatic contributions are made each pay cycle to eligible participants.
