Brokerage Specific Mutual Funds Portfolios

The following brokerage specific plans are based on brokerage suggested mutual funds. Brokerages such as Fidelity, Charles Schwab or TD Ameritrade recommend a certain set of mutual funds which are usually no load and no transaction fee. These plans can be implemented in both IRA and taxable investment accounts.

Similar to a 401k plan, these plans consist of a list of candidate mutual funds suggested by brokerages.

Two model portfolios are provided for each plan. See here for more details.

Schwab OneSource Select List Funds

Schwab updates quarterly OneSource Select mutual funds (about 150 funds) that cover 6 major asset classes: US Equity, Foreign Equity, Emerging Market Equity, Fixed Income, REITs and Commodities. These No Load and No Transaction Fee funds are picked by Schwab experts and have 90 days minimum holding periods.

Good for Schwab clients

Fidelity Extended Fund Picks

Fidelity provides a list of funds called Fidelity Fund Picks. Since Fidelity Fund Picks only cover 4 major asset classes: Fixed Income, US Equity, Foreign Equity, and REITs, we have decided to add additional No Load No Transaction fee funds to cover two other missing asset classes: Emerging market stocks and commodities. Most of Fidelity funds in this plan now have 60 days minimum holding periods. See here for Fidelity Fund Picks plan.

Good for Fidelity clients. Fidelity recently changed minimum holding periods of many funds in the plan to 60 days that improves portfolio performance.

TD Ameritrade Premier List No Transaction Fee Mutual Fund Plan

TD Ameritrade Premier List No Transaction Fee Mutual Fund Plan consists of No Transaction Fee funds from the Premier List of Funds suggested by TD Ameritrade and Morningstar Associates. It covers 6 major asset classes: Emerging Market Equity, Foreign Equity, Fixed Income, US Equity, Commodity and REITs. It has 90 days minimum holding periods.

Good for TD Ameritrade clients.

Good for: Armchair or beginning investors, prefer mainstream and passive role.
